What is the conservation of energy?
A
-Energy cannot be created or destroyed, energy can be transferred from one form to another but the total is the same
-Energy is always lost in converting forms
-Lost energy is useless and impossible to retrieve and normally escapes as heat or sound
-All devices are less than 100% efficient

How does work done and losing energy correlate?
A
-If you were to overcome something using work for example friction, some energy is lost
-In the case of friction, energy is transferred to heat

-How well a device converts the energy you put in into the energy you want it to give out
