Energy Flashcards
Energy
What is TES?
What is the composition of KR’s TES?
Domestic energy production + imports - exports - what is stored. The total amount of energy supplied to end users.
Coal 33%, oil 34%, hydro 24%, natural gas 9%.
What is the difference btw TES and TFC?
TFC does not account for losses when converting primary energy sources to usable products (e.g., burning coal for heat and El.) or transporting electricity
The transformation of primary energy sources: three main forms
1) Crude oil is refined into different fuels and products.
2) Coal, oil, and gas are burnt at thermal power plants to produce heat, that is then used to generate electricity.
3) Renewable energy sources generate electricity directly from natural forces.
What does the energy sector require water for (apart from hydropower)?
- To cool power plants. 2. To grow biofuels. 3. To turn turbines in HPPs.
Explain how CHP systems work
1) Fossil fuels are burned and combined with water in a boiler.
2) The resulting steam is used to heat homes and provde them with hot water, as well as to power generetors to produce electricity.
Why is electricity trade between CA countries is relatively limited?
Because it is technically more complex and requires a direct cross-border interconnection.
