Energy Flashcards
The energy a moving object has because of its motion. Its energy of a moving object depends on the objects mass and it’s speed.
Kinetic Energy
Stored energy due to its position.
Potential Energy
Energy stored by something that can stretch or compress.
Elastic Potential Energy
Energy stored in chemical bonds.
Chemical Potential Energy
Energy stored by objects due to their position above Earth’s surface. It depends on the objects mass and height above the ground.
Gravitational Potential Energy
The total amount of potential and kinetic energy in a system and can be expressed by mechanical energy= potential energy + kinetic energy
Mechanical Energy
States that energy cannot be created or destroyed. It means that the total amount of energy in the universe does not change.
Law of Conservation of Energy
The transfer of energy that occurs when a force makes an object move.
Work
The amount of work done in one second. It is the rate at which work is done.
Power
A device that makes doing work easier.
Machine
The force that applied to a machine .
Input Force
The force applied by the machine
Output Force
The ratio of the output force to the input force.
Mechanical Advantage
A measure of how much of the work put into a machine is changed into useful output work by the machine.
Efficiency
A machine that does work with only one movement of the machine. There are 6 types of simple machines.
