Energy Flashcards
Energy contained in the nucleus of an atom.
Nuclear
What is the law of conservation of energy?
Energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only change from one form to another.
Energy of moving electrons
Electrical
Energy an object has because of its location
Potential
Energy given off by a lightbulb
Radiant or thermal
At the highest point on a roller coaster, it has a large amount of this type of energy
Potential
Give 2 examples of renewable energy sources
Wind Hydropower Solar Geothermal
What are fossil fuels
Plant and animal remains from millions of years ago that turned into fuels from intense heat and pressure
What is a photovoltaic?
A device that changes sunlight directly into electricity
If nuclear power plants are so highly efficient, why don’t we use them more often?
Even though they produce very little waste, the waste they do produce is extremely dangerous. The waste product must be stored very carefully and lasts for hundreds of years.
Where does geothermal energy come from?
Molten rock (magma) from deep inside earth’s core
What are 3 cons to using wind energy?
It can affect bird and bat population. It takes a lot of space. It produces a great amount of noise
True or False: Nuclear power is renewable.
False. Nuclear power is nonrenewable.
What are two things that affect on object’s kinetic energy.
Its mass and velocity. If either of these increases, the kinetic energy increases also
What is the job of the transformer?
Besides helping save earth from deceptacons…joking.
transformers take the electricity from the generator and amplify it–make it into a higher voltage.
