Energy Flashcards
1
Q
What is energy?
A
- Energy is defined as the ability to do work.
- A combination of energy and matter make up the universe!
2
Q
What are the Laws Of Energy and Conservation?
A
- Energy can’t be created or destroyed.
- It may be transformed from one form into another.
- The total amount of energy always stays the same.
3
Q
What are the 9 Forms Of Energy?
A
- Gravitational: e.g. a book on the top shelf.
- Electrical: e.g. battery, solar cells.
- Elastic: e.g. rubber band.
- Kinetic: e.g. anything that moves.
- Sound: e.g. music, singing.
- Light: e.g. the sun.
- Nuclear: e.g. nuclear bombs.
- Chemical: e.g. fuels like natural gas.
- Thermal: e.g. boiling a kettle, heat caused by friction.

Q
What is the difference between energy transformations and energy transfers?
A
- Energy transformations occur when one type of energy changes or transforms into another type of energy. For example electrical to light energy on a light bulb.
- Energy transfer on the over hand are when energy moves without changing forms. For example, heat moving such as a pot boiling water.

Q
What is Energy Efficiency and what is the formula to calculate it?
A
- Energy efficiency is the percentage of energy that is useful compared to all the energy put into a system.
- Formula %: (Useful Energy/Total Energy) x 100
