Energy Flashcards
What is energy
the ability to do work
what are the 2 types of energy and explain them
ponetial - stored energy
Kinetic - movement
types of knetic energy
light, heat, sound, movement and electric
5 types of potential energy
stored, elastic-when pulled hair tie
gravital
Nuclear and chemical
what is the law of conservation on energy
Energy can not be made of distroyed
what are Energy trasformations. dont have to list all
Chemical to Thermal: When you burn a fuel like wood, gas, or coal, chemical energy stored in the fuel is transformed into thermal energy (heat) and light energy.
Electrical to Light: In an incandescent light bulb or a fluorescent tube, electrical energy is converted into light energy.
Electrical to Sound: In speakers, electrical energy is transformed into sound energy.
Potential to Kinetic: When you drop an object, gravitational potential energy is converted into kinetic energy as it falls..
transform?
changes into a DIFFERENT energy
transfer?
when energy goes from 1 objet to another eg heating up water
what are the 3 types of heat transfer
conduction convection and radiation
what is conduction
when two objects are in contact, heat ransfers from the hotter one ionto the cooler one untill they reach the same temp
eg when you hold a cold waterbottle it heats up in the place were you hand was
what is convection
the transfer from heat to liquid and gas,
eg when you are bolling water the stove will make the particals rise becuse hotter = less dense and the lesser dense particals the more they will rise opposite for cool
what is energy effenticy
the measure of how much input energy is converted into useful out put energy
radiation
heat spreads outwards as a wave from any hot object
doesn’t require the movement of particles
what is input energy?
what goes into the device or appliance
what is useful output energy?
what is the needed energy of an object eg when your using a computer you need sound and light so they are useful out punt energy
wasted energy
energy that is made but not needed
how do u calculate how much useful energy is converted into useful out put energy
useful divided by inupt x100
howis sound enerngy produced
what particals
Sound energy is the energy produced by vibrating objects that travels in the form of waves
how does sound travel
it travels buy sound waves
what type of energy is vibrating particles/ potential or kinetic
kinetic because it moves
electomagnetic specturm
The electromagnetic spectrum is like a rainbow made of invisible light. It includes all kinds of light, from radio waves, which are like the long waves at the bottom of the rainbow, to gamma rays, which are like the short waves at the top. Each type of light has different uses, like helping us see, cook food in a microwave, or take pictures of our bones at the doctor’s office.
what is high and low frequency
high=vibrating particles quickly
low=vibrating particles slower
what is pitch
how high or low a sound is
(finn has a really high pitch)
higher frencey is shorter or longer wavelength
shorter
