energy Flashcards
kinetic energy
KE = 1/2 mv ^2
potential energy (Gravitational)
MGH
Total Energy
PE +KE
conversion energy
energy can not be created or destroyed, only transferred
two types of energy
kinetic and potential energy
kinetic is when a object is in motion while potential is a object that has the ‘potential to move’
ex: Ball on the top of the hill or ball rolling down hill
4 forms of energy
Mechanical energy - results from movement or the location of an object. (sum of KE and PE)
Chemical energy - energy stored in the bonds of atoms and molecules
Electrical energy - related to forces and movements on electrically charged particles and the movement of those particles
thermal energy - heat generated from friction (the faster, the more heat energy is released)
how are kinetic energy and power related?
change in kinetic energy = work and power = work/time, so power is change in kinetic energy/time
work energy theorem
theorem states that energy is the ability to do work and network done on a system is = change in kinetic energy on a system network causes a change in the kinetic energy of the object.
formula for net work:
net work = change in kinetic energy = final kinetic energy - initial kinetic energy.
kinetic energy
energy of motion
potential energy
stored energy
work
force moved through distance
energy
the ability to do work
power
amount of work done per unit of time
conservation of energy
energy cannot be created nor destroyed
displacement
difference between the origin and endpoint
