Energy Flashcards
Types of potential energy
Chemical, Elastic, gravitational, nuclear, electrical
Types of kinetic energy
Heat, light, sound, motion, electrical
What is chemical energy?
Energy stored in chemicals that, when reacted together such as in burning reactions, release heat, sound or light
What is Elastic energy?
Energy stored in a elastic object that is stretched, such as string or a rubber band
What is gravitational energy?
Potential energy of a object elevated above the ground.
What is nuclear energy?
Energy stored in the nucleus of atoms that can release energy slowly, such as in a nuclear reactor, or quickly such as in a nuclear explosion.
What is motion energy?
Motion energy is energy stored in the movement of objects. The faster they move, the more energy is stored. It takes energy to get an object moving, and energy is released when an object slows down.
What is light energy?
Light energy is a form of electromagnetic radiation. Light consists of photons, which are produced when an object’s atoms heat up. Light travels in waves and is the only form of energy visible to the human eye.
What is sound energy?
Energy carried by the air in a room and detectable by an ear.
What is heat energy?
Energy that causes object to heat up in temperature.
What is kinetic energy?
the kinetic energy of an object is the energy that it possesses due to its motion
What is potential energy?
potential energy is the energy held by an object because of its position relative to other objects, stresses within itself, its electric charge, or other factors
What is energy?
It is the ability to do work
What is the law of conservation of energy?
Energy cannot be created or destroyed it can only be transferred or tramitted.
What is the equation for gravitational potential energy?
GPE= mgh
GPE = gravitational potential energy (J) m = mass (kg) g = acceleration due to gravity (9.8 m/s) h = height (m)
