Energy Flashcards
What are the forms of Energy
Magnetic, Kinetic, Heat/Thermal, Light, Gravitational Potential, Chemical Potential, Sound, Elastic Potential, Electrical, Nuclear.
What is a STORE
A place where something is kept for use when needed.
Where would you find kinetic energy
In a moving object
Where would you find chemical energy
In a fuel or battery
Where would you find gravitational energy
In an object above ground
Where would you find elastic energy
A streched or squashed object
Where would you find Thermal energy
In a substances temperature
Where would you find magnetic energy
In two separated magnets
Where would you find Nuclear enrgy
In radioactive decay
In order to increase an energy store, energy must be transferred between stores, this can be done through four different pathways
Mechanically (when a force acts and something moves)
Electrically (when a current flows)
By heating (because of a temperature difference)
By radiation (a wave such as light)
Waves (microwaves or sound
What is Heat
The heat an object contains is the amount of its thermal energy measured in joules or j.
What is temperature
The temperature of an object is to do with how hot or cold it is, measured using a thermometer. Note that the unit of temperature is *c.
What is the Conservation of Energy rule
Energy can only be transferred it cannot be destroyed or made.
What is energy measured in
Joules (J)
What is Power measured in
Watts (W)
