Endothermic And Exothermic Flashcards
Endothermic
Endothermic reactions or processes absorb heat energy from the surroundings. Bond breaking, melting and boiling are all endothermic processes. When a reaction is endothermic there will be a positive enthalpy (change of rH). On a reaction diagram the energy of the products will be higher than the energy of the reactants, with a large activation energy.
Exothermic
Exothermic reactions or processes release the heat energy from the surroundings. Bond making and condensing are Exothermic processes. When a reaction is Exothermic there will be a negative enthalpy (change in rH) . On a reaction diagram the energy of the products will be lower than the energy of the reactants, with a small activation energy.
