- Bowel stricture
- Bowel fistula
- Known obstructing bowel tumor or lesion
- Smaller size of patient
- Allergy to material
- Presence of pacemaker or other electromagnetic device that interferes with capsule endoscopy electronics

- Capsule retention
- Aspiration
- Skin or mucosal irritation
- Vomiting

- Sore throat
- Missed lesion

- Equipment malfunction
- if capsule delivery device used - risk of standard endoscopy also present
