endodontic diagnosis Flashcards
reversible pulpitis
inflammation that should resolve with management/ treatment
pain is NOT spontaneous
discomfort to stimulus for short period
little periapical radiographic changes
symptomatic irreversible pulpitis
inflamed pulp incapable of healing
common aetiologies = deep caries, extensive restorations, fractures etc that expose pulp
pain = spontaneous and sharp , postural changes may accentuate
asymptomatic irreversible pulpitis
usually no symptoms
inflamed pulp incapable of healing
common aetiologies = deep caries, extensive restorations, fractures etc that expose pulp
pulp necrosis
death of dental pulp
non responsive to pulp testing and asymptomatic
previously treated
previously had endo treatment
will be non responsive to tests
previously initiated
has had partial endodontic therapy
may respond to tests depending on extent of treatment
symptomatic apical periodontitis
painful response to biting/ percussion
may or may not be radiographic changes
asymptomatic apical periodontitis
apical radiolucency and no pain to percussion/ palpation
may have been previously treated
chronic apical abscess
inflammatory reaction to pulpal infection/ necrosis
gradual onset, minimal discomfort
osseous destruction therefore radiographic radiolucencys
acute apical abscess
rapid onset
painful, pus , possible swelling
often no radiographic signs
condensing osteitis
diffuse radiopaque lesion
localised bony reaction
