Endocrinology - Hypothalamus and Pituitary Flashcards
What cell types are contained in the anterior pituitary?
gonadotrophs, lactotrophs, somatotrophs, corticotrophs, and thyrotrophs
What hormones are in Family l of the adenohypophyses hormones?
GH and PRL
What hormones are in Family ll of the adenohypophyses hormones?
glycoprotein hormones including gonadotropins (FSH, LH) and TSH
What hormones are in Family lll of the adenohypophyses hormones?
Hormones derived from the same precursor protein - pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) (Anterior lobe and intermediate lobe)
- MSH
- ACTH
MSH
Melanocyte-stimulating hormone. Secreted from melanotroph cells in the intermediate lobe of adenohypophyses. Alpha MSH = 13 aa and Beta MSH = 22 aa. Humans don’t have MSH because we don’t have an intermediate lobe!
