Q

What is the difference between primary and secondary hyperthyroidism.

A

Primary hyperthyroidism is where there is an issue at the level of the thyroid where it is realeasing large amounts of thyroid hormone (T3/T4). This is in contrast to secondary hyperthyroidism where the inappropriate levels of thyroid hormone expression occur due to an issue at the level of the pituitary. (TSH levels high)
