Q

Function of anterior pituitary?

A

Connected to hypothalamus by portal blood supply system . Veins carry blood from capillaries in pituitary gland. Hypothalamic releasing and inhibiting hormones reflect influence on anterior pituitary hormones. Secrets 6 hormones.

Q

Posterior pituitary?

A

Neurogypophysis. Directly connected to hypothalamus by nerve tract. Composed of nerve tissue secretes 2 hormones. Post pituitary hormones produced in hypothalamus then travel down axons and Are stored in terminal axons of post pituitary until released into blood. Acts as storage area for hypothalamus.

16
Q

Hypopituitarism pathophysiology

A

Deficiency or decrease of one or more hormones by anterior pituitary . Selective hypopituitarism -1 or more deficiencies. Panhypopiruitaeism - total failure of pituitary gland. Most frequent dificiencies GH and gonadotropins.

17
Q

Causes of hypopituitarism?

A

Pituitary rumors, destruction, infarction, infections, vascular and autoimmune disorders
