A

What are the 3 chemical classes of hormones?

A
  1. Derivatives of Amino Acids (f.ex tyrosine and tryptophan)
    Catecholamines (Adrenal Medulla)
    Thyroxine (T4) (Thyroid)
  2. Peptide hormones (chains of amino acids)
    Peptide (smaller) hormones:
    Thyrotrophin releasing hormone (TRH, hypothalamus)
    Antidiuretic hormone (ADH; hypothalamus -stored in the posterior “neuro” pituitary)
    Protein (larger) hormones:
    Insulin
    Growth Hormone (GH)
  3. Steroid hormones (from cholesterol)
    Sex hormones
    Cortisol
