Releasing hormones (RH) and Inhibiting hormones (IH)
What are the functions of the Hypothalamus?
Body temperature, hunger, thirst, mood, sex drive, blood pressure, and sleep
Where is the Hypothalamus located?
Ventral brain
What hormones does the Pituitary Gland produce?
Anterior - Growth Hormone, Prolactin, and Stimulating Hormones (SH)
Posterior - Oxytocin, Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH)
What are the functions of the Pituitary Gland?
Growth, sexual/reproductive development and function.
Where is the Pituitary Gland located?
Base of the brain, below hypothalamus
What hormones does the Pineal Gland produce?
Melatonin
What are the functions of the Pineal Gland?
Sleep, receives information about the state of light-dark cycle and responds by production and secretion of melatonin
Where is the Pineal Gland located?
Below pituitary gland
What hormones does the Thyroid Gland produce?
Thyroxine and calcitonin
What are the functions of the Thyroid Gland?
Control metabolism
Where is the Thyroid Gland located?
Front of neck, under voice box
What hormones does the Thymus Gland produce?
Thymosin
What are the functions of the Thymus Gland?
Production and maturation of immune cells
Where is the Thymus Gland located?
In the chest, behind the breastbone
