- Nervous system to regulate & coordinate physiological processes
- Both work very differently

What is the 2 functions of the endocrine system?
Give an example?
A
- Secretes hormones into blood stream to regulate our bodily functions
- e.g. Endocrine system releases melatonin from pineal gland inducing sleepiness & relaxation
- Provides a chemical system of communication via blood stream
- A network of glands manufacture & secrete chemical messengers (hormones) throughout the body
e.g. adrenal glands secrete adrenaline initiating F/F response

What Gland is known as the Master gland & what does it do?
A
- Pituitary gland
- Power to influence other endocrine glands
- Governed by hypothalamus
- Hypothalamus is the CNS main link to endocrine system

3 hormones secreted from pituitary gland & what do they do?
A
- ACTH: Stimulates release of glucocorticoids (key component in stress response)
- Growth hormone: Promotes cell growth & multiplication
- Prolactin: Enables production of female mammals to produce milk
