Maintain homeostasis
What are receptors
Antennas on an organ that respond to specific hormones
What are exocrine glands
Glands that secrete liquid outside the body ie sweat
What are endocrine glands
Glands that secrete “liquid” into the circulatory system
What does the pancreas secrete
Insulin
Glucagon
What does insulin do
Leads to an uptake of glucose in the liver
What does glucagon do
Sends messages to the liver and muscles to release glucose
What do the adrenal glands secrete
Adrenaline/ Epinephrine
What does adrenaline medulla do
Raises heart rate
Helps circulate blood
Raises blood pressure
Raises breathing rate
Opens the bronchioles
What does the adrenal cortex do
Releases cortisol
What does cortisol do
Maintains metabolism under stress but can suppress the immune system after excess periods of time
What does the hypothalamus do
Regulates hunger
Regulates thirst
Regulates temperature
Secretes adh
Secretes oxytocin
What does oxytocin do
Makes uterus contract
Helps lactation
What does the pituitary gland do
Secrete growth hormone
Secrets prolactin
Secrets FSH and LH

Helps produce milk
