Endocrine System Flashcards
Amine Hormone
Amine hormones are small molecules
Formed from the amino acid tyrosine and include the catecholamine adrenaline (epinephrine) and noradrenalin (nor epinephrine)
Fulfill roles as hormones and neurotransmitters.
Peptide Hormone
Peptide hormones are peptides consisting of between three and over 200 amino acids and include all the hormones released from the hypothalamus, pituitary, and pancreas (insulin and glucagon).
Peptide Hormones are Water Soluble.
Steroid Hormone
Steroid hormones are lipid-based (cholesterol) and include all the hormones released from reproductive organs (testosterone and estrogen) and the adrenal cortex (Aldosterone and cortisol).
- Adrenaline
Regulation of Metabolism & Cardio-Vascular Control.
Adrenal medulla
2.Aldosteron
Regulation of Electrolyte & Fluid Balance in Kidney.
Adrenal cortex
- Cortisol
Regulation of Metabolism, Muscle Catabolism and Immune Function
Adrenal cortex
4.Erythropoeitin
Regulation of Production of Red Blood Cells.

5.Estrogen
Regulation of Fat Metabolism and Bone Turn over.
Ovaries
6.Glucogen
Regulation of metabolism via blood glucose control
