Endocrine System Flashcards
Gland
a group of cells or discreet structure in the body that produces and releases a specific hormone
Hormone
A chemical substance that acts on specific cells in another part of the body (target cells) eg, testosterone, progesterone, dopamine, endorphins, serotonin
pituitary gland
coordinates the endocrine system, responds to info from the Hypothalamus, it tells a lot of other glands what to do and releases lots of hormones to carry a message and tell them what to do
Hypothalamus
constantly checks internal conditions and responds, it’s the link between the nervous and endocrine system. It checks our blood levels and sugar levels and get this info from receptors in the nervous system. Then sends this info to pituitary
