ENDOCRINE GLANDS Flashcards
describe and identify the hormones released
Hypothalamus
is located at the base of the brain and produces releasing hormones that stimulate the release of hormones from the pituitary gland.
Pituitary Gland
pea sized gland located just under the hypothalamus at the base of the brain, it secretes growth hormone, thyroid stimulating hormones and adrenocorticotropid hormones
Thyroid gland
is located just below the larynx in the neck it secretes thyroxine T4 and triiodothyronine T3
Parathyroid Glands
their are 4 tiny Parathyroid glands behind the necks thyroid gland this glands secrete the parathyroid hormone.
Adrenal glands
Located on top of each kidney, they secrete several hormones, including Cortisol, Aldosterone, Adrenaline and Noradrenaline
Pancreas
located behind the stomach, It produces hormones involved in blood sugar regulation, including Insulin, Glucagon
Gonads, Testes
The testes are in the scrotum in males,The testes secretetestosterone, responsible for male characteristics and reproductive functions
Gonads, Ovaries
The ovaries are in the lower abdomen in females, the ovaries produce oestrogen and progesterone, responsible for female characteristics and reproductive functions.
The endocrine system’s glands and their hormones work together to regulate various processes
including growth, metabolism, reproduction, and the body’s response to stress. The careful balance of these hormones is crucial for maintaining homeostasis.
