Blood supply to the posterior pituitary gland?
Inferior hypophysial artery
Blood supply to the anterior pituitary gland?
Superior hypophysial artery
Anterior pituitary gland cells, what colour do they stain and what do they produce?
Acidophil, stains pink - somatotroph (GH) and mammotroph (prolactin)
Basiphil, stains purple - gonadotroph (FSH, LH), corticotroph (ACTH), thyrotroph (TSH)
Posterior pituitary gland produces?
Vasopressin and oxytocin
