Gliclazide
A
Anti diabetic
Sulfonylureas
Lowers blood glucose by stimulating release of insulin from pancreas and increasing sensitivity to insulin at the receptor sites
Nursing considerations-
Contraindications- hypersensitivity, unstable diabetes, T1DM, keto acidosis, diabetic coma or precoma, severe renal or hepatic impairment, concurrent use of oral miconazole, alcohol or systemic phenylbutazone
Use cautiously- G6PD, infection, stress, impaired thyroid, pituitary or adrenal function, malnutrition, fever, prolonged nausea or vomiting
Adverse effects- hypoglycaemia, GI- abdo pain, diarrhoea, dyspepsia, increase liver enzymes, nausea, vomiting
Skin- photo sensitivity, rash
