What is the Dawn Phenomenon?
A
Between 3am-8am, the body turns out stored glucose to prepare for the day ahead. It also releases hormones to decrease insulin sensitivity. At the same time, bedtime insulin is wearing off.

What is the Somogyi effect?
A
Man-made “rebound hyperglycemia” resulting from
- proving too much insulin causing low glucose in the middle of the night resulting in the production of hormones that release stored glucose
- not enough insulin such that you wake up with elevated poorly controlled glucose.

Alendronate: how do you prevent pill esophagitis
A
Drink pill with full cup of water. Sit up x 30 mins. Stop alendronate after 5 years.
