Endocrine Flashcards
1
Q
What is the difference between endocrine, autocrine and paracrine?
A
Endocrine - blood bourne - acts at distant sites
Paracrine - acts on adjacent cells
Autocrine - acts on same cells
2
Q
4 differences between water soluble and fat soluble hormones
A
Water soluble (peptides/monoamines) - are transported unbound, bind to surface receptor, short half life, quick clearance Fat soluble (thyroid/steroid) - are transported bound to proteins, long half life, slow clearance, diffuse into cell
3
Q
Which hormones are stored in vesicles?
A
Peptides/monoamines
4
Q
Which type of hormones are synthesised on demand?
A
Steroid
