Endo Revision Flashcards
PULPITIS
inflammation of the pulp
PERIODONTITIS
Inflammation of the periodontium
Acute Symptoms
moderate to severe symptoms of a short duration (days - weeks)
Chronic Symptoms
Mild or no symptoms of long duration usually months to years
Periradicular
pertaining to any part of or the entire radicular/root region of a tooth
Apical
end/tip/last third of the tooth root
Healthy pulp
tooth is asymptomatic and gives mild to moderate response to thermal testing and EPT
RADIOGRAPH SHOWS clearly demarcated canal that tapers smoothly toward apex - no calcification seen & lamina dura is intact
Is reversible pulpitis a disease?
No, it is a transient condition of the pulp
How does reversible pulpitis present?
generally asymptomatic pulp - but it is inflamed and will give a quick sharp response to thermal (cold) stimulus lasting no more than a few seconds once the stimulus is removed
clinical evidence of reversible pulpitis
history of dental caries, perio scaling, root planning, recent unbased restoration, enamel fracture exposing dentine
Is spontaneous or unprovoked pain associated with reversible pulpitis?
no
how does reversible pulpitis present radiographically?
Normal - except for evidence of caries or coronal fracture without direct pulp involvement
is RCT needed for Reversible Pulpitis?
No. –> conservative tx is reqd.
how to treat reversible pulpitis?
conservative tx -
- remove caries & place restoration
- remove unbased restoration & place liner under new filling eg Ca(OH)2 [dycal]
- restore fractured tooth - once it is treatable - to cover exposed dentinal tubules
- Restore any other lesions with composite or GIC
what is disclusion?
a separation of the teeth when the jaw is slightly open
