7
Q

Healthy pulp

A

tooth is asymptomatic and gives mild to moderate response to thermal testing and EPT
RADIOGRAPH SHOWS clearly demarcated canal that tapers smoothly toward apex - no calcification seen & lamina dura is intact

9
Q

How does reversible pulpitis present?

A

generally asymptomatic pulp - but it is inflamed and will give a quick sharp response to thermal (cold) stimulus lasting no more than a few seconds once the stimulus is removed

12
Q

how does reversible pulpitis present radiographically?

14
Q

how to treat reversible pulpitis?

A

conservative tx -

  1. remove caries & place restoration
  2. remove unbased restoration & place liner under new filling eg Ca(OH)2 [dycal]
  3. restore fractured tooth - once it is treatable - to cover exposed dentinal tubules
  4. Restore any other lesions with composite or GIC

16
Q

When is pain felt on a cracked tooth?

A

only on disclusion

17
Q

What causes pain in a cracked tooth

A

On disclusion when the oral fluids are driven w/in the crack in a pulpal direction

18
Q

what special investigation is used to identify a cracked tooth?

A

tooth slooth or wooden stick used for selective biting to reproduce pain on release. - careful!! –> this can extend the fracture
TRANSILLUMINATION test & Application of a dye ( eg Methylene blue or iodine sol’n)

19
Q

can a cracked tooth be detected radiographically?

A

usually no.

20
Q

what indicated a good prognosis or treatable cracked tooth?

A

if the apical extent of the crack ends coronal to the level of the crestal bone.
