Endo materials Flashcards
Calcium hydroxide
antibacterial, alkaline, dissolves necrotic tissue, bacteria + their remnants. Ideal for necrotic, not vital.
Odontopaste
clindamycin hydrochloride (5%), triamcinolone acetonide (1%), zinc oxide based.
Ledermix
Tetracycline antibiotic (3%), triamcinolone acetonide (1%) anti-inflammatory steroid, causes staining.
Sodium hypochlorite
Dissolves vital and necrotic tissue, antimicrobial, lubricating. Free chlorine in NaOCl dissolves necrotic tissue, turns proteins into amino acids.
EDTA
(17%) – chelating irrigant, removes smear layer. After shaping, irrigate with 1 min, then final rinse with NaOCl. Reacts with chlorine in NaOCl, don’t leave in canal for long as it can dissolve dentine.
GP points
GP- zinc oxide ~60%, GP ~20%
AH plus
Epoxy resin, seal space, fill voids, improved version of AH26 and doesn’t release formaldehyde.
What shouldn’t you mix calcium hydroxide with?
Calcium hydroxide and triamcinolone should not be mixed 50:50, as steroid component is destroyed immediately by the increased alkalinity and it offers only minimal benefits over the use of calcium hydroxide alone.
