End User Profile Flashcards
What is an end-user profile?
An end-user profile is a description
of a narrowly defined subset of end-users
with similar characteristics, similar needs,
and word-of-mouth.
What are the three broad categories of questions you can ask to characterize prospective end users?
demographics, motivation, and behavior.
Demographic questions would be questions
such as:
what’s their gender?
What’s their age range?
What’s their income range?
What’s their geographic location?
Questions about motivation are:
what motivates them?
What do they fear most in the world?
Who’s their hero?
Questions about behavior are:
where do they go for vacation? Where do they go for dinner? Where do they go before work? What newspapers do they read? What websites? What TV shows do they watch?
Why do we use end user profile?
Ultimately, in all of these, you’re looking to find out what
makes them special and identifiable and de-selects
other people so that if you see a potential candidate,
you could say, it fits within this end user profile,
or it doesn’t.
And it shouldn’t be too so broad that everyone you see
fits in that profile.
Now, why do you need a good end user profile? Why segment further?
Well, because you will find that there is still a lot of variety
amongst the target end users that you’ve
identified through your market segmentation
and through the selection of your beachhead end market.
They may have different motivations, different fears,
different priorities, and therefore
they are likely to want different features
from your product.
