End of Years Flashcards
Order of planets in our solar system
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune
My Very Educated Mother Just Served Up Noodles
What is the difference between a planet and a moon
Planets orbit stars while moons orbit planets
Why do we have seasons
The Earth sits on an axis, which means that at any given point in the year, one hemisphere will be tilted towards the sun and one will be tilted away from the sun. The hemisphere tilted towards the sun will receive more intense sunlight and so will experience higher temperatures I.e. Summer. Over the course of the year, the Earth orbits the sun and the hemisphere tilting towards it will swap.
Why are seasons different
Seasons are different because for part of the year, the northern hemisphere will be tilting towards the sun resulting in a higher temperature while for the other part of the year the southern hemisphere will be tilting towards the sun resulting in a higher temperature. At this time, the northern hemisphere will be tilting away from the sun so will not be exposed to as much sun which means that it will have a lower temperature.
What effects can balanced forces have on an object.
Make a stationary object remain stationary or make a moving object continue.moving at a steady speed ina straight line
What are the effects unbalanced forces can have on an object
It can make a stationary object start moving/accelerate
It can make a moving object Accelerates in the direction of the resultant force
How do we measure forces
Newtons (N) using a newton meter
What are the different types of energy
- Kinetic - Energy in movement (speed)
- Gravitational - Energy stored by placing
something high up (where it can fall) - Elastic - Energy stored in springs, etc.
- Thermal - Energy stored as heat
- Chemical - Stored in chemicals (food, petrol, etc.)
- Nuclear - Stored in atomic nuclei (nuclear power)
- Electrostatic - Stored as electric charge build up
- Magnetic - Stored by separating magnets
What are energy transfers and what are the different types
An energy transfer is when you convert one type of energy to another
1.By Heating
2. By Radiation - By either light or sound
3. Electrically
4. Mechanically - by physically pushing or
pulling, applying a force.
What are advantages and disadvantages of solar power
Advantages are it is most abundant renewable energy source and will never run out
Disadvantages are it isn’t very efficient and their are intermittency issues based on locatopn
What are advantages and disadvantages of nuclear power
It has low operating costs and accounts for 11% of global electricity genration
Many nuclear accidents occur and and nuclear waste is very dangerous
What are advantages and disadvantages of geothermal energy
Consistent power generation and is very reliable
Accidental release of of CO2 and hydrogen sulfite emmisions
What are advantages and disadvantages of wind power
It has no direct co2 emissions and makes use of otherwise you useful products and won’t turn out
It relies on unreliable product and is an eye sore
What is the difference between mass and witch
Weight changes and mass does not
Weight is the force from gravity and is measure in Newtons
Mass is the amount of matter in an object and is measure in g or kg
What is the calculation of weight
Weight = mass x g (10N/kg)
