Good
- Communication, Well Controlled Symptoms, Not Distressing, Time to Plan, Preferred Place of Death
Bad
- Poor Communication, Perception of Failure of Healthcare Team, Distressing Symptoms, Sudden and Catastrophic event, Disagreement, No time to plan ahead
What is quality of life enhanced by?
Caring attitude of staff, family visits, physical environment, maintaining control, feeling safe
What diminished quality of life?
Lost independence, lost activities, pain/fear of pain, feeling a burden
Define collusion?
A secret agreement made between clinicians and family members to hide diagnosis of a serious or life threatening illness from patient
What are the reasons for collusion ?
Disclosure causes patient to lose hope/leads to depression/hastens progression of illness and death/ risk of suicide/psychological pain for patient
Why does collusion go against clinical practice?
It goes against autonomy and breaches confidentiality
Patient are unable to give informed consent
