What is a biome?
A biome is a large area of the Earth that is home to similar plant and animal communities that are adapted to that particular environment.

A type of farming that requires large areas of land.
What is intensive farming?
A kind of farming that can supply large volumes of produce in a relatively small area.
What is food security?
A state where all people at all times have access to enough food, that is safe and nutritious, in order to sustain a healthy life.
What is food availability?
The state of people having enough food of appropriate quality consistently available.
How are poverty and food security linked?
Poverty and food security are linked as people who suffer from poverty struggle to meet their basic daily food needs and spend a greater percentage of their incomes on food than those in wealthier countries.

What is the green revolution?
The green revolution was a period when the productivity of global agriculture increased drastically as a result of new advances. This can occur through the use of artificial fertilisers, pesticides and new technologies.
What is the northwest passage?
Shipping companies are looking for ways to reduce the distance between trading countries. A preferred route for ships would be the Northwest passage however, the Arctic sea Ice is unpredictable and hazardous. Climate change is opening up the Northwest passage melting 70 000 square kilometres of ice per year. Researched believe that the passage should be completely ice free within decades making it one of the few benefits of climate change.
What is a tariff?
A tariff is a tax or payment that a government places on imports or exports of a particular type of product or produce; used to restrict or control trade between countries.
What is the digital divide?
The unequal levels of access that people in different countries have to communication technologies like the Internet and mobile network coverage. Continents like Africa and the Middle East are cut off from Continents like Europe and America due to their lack of access to technology.
