How can encephalitis be distinguished from meningitis?

A

Abnormalities in brain function: altered mental states, motor and sensory deficits, altered behaviour and personality, speech and movement disorders

Normally show some parenchymal inflammation e.g. inflammatory cells in CSF or inflammation on imaging
