A secure energy supply is crucial to human wellbeing, so a increasing middle class = increasing energy demands

Pro: efficient, easy to transport, clean
Con: cannot be stored (supply & demand must run in unison)
What factors affect traditional to modern energy use?
Energy availability: modern energy and be not available/inaccessible as the countries do not have the necessary infrastructure
Energy affordability: if available households may not switch as too expensive
Cultural Preference: in UK many prefer wood/coal fire over gas or electric
How many people in the UK are energy poor?
5 million rural household are not connected to mains gas
Worldwide how many people do not have access to a modern energy supply?
2 Billion no modern supply at all
1.6 billion live without electricity
Why is India interesting for energy concerns?
It is on the way to one of the worlds largest energy consumers, but only a small% of indians have a supply of clean & efficient energy.
