What is arbitration?
When the Industrial Relations Commission makes a decision about a dispute between an employer and an employee, which is legally binding.
What are skilled jobs?
Jobs that require specialist training and qualifications.
What are semi- skilled jobs?
A job that requires some training and qualifications.
What are unskilled jobs?
Jobs that require very little training and no formal qualifications.
What are the roles of trade unions?
Main roles are to:
- Protect the rights of members
- Maintain and increase wages
- Improve workign conditions
What is negotiation?
Method of resolving disputes where the parties involved discuss the issues in an attempt to reach a compromise.
What is mediation?
Occurs when a third party helps those involved in a dispute to reach a solution accpetable to both sides.
What is conciliation and arbitration?
Conciliation is similar to mediation but the third person is the Industrial Relations Commission.
Arbitiration is when the Industrial Relations Commission makes a decision about a dispute between the employer and employee that is legally binding.
What are collective wants?
Goods and services provided to the whole community for use by the government.
What is superannuation?
A way of saving money so that an employer has some money in retirement.
