Minimum Wage
A
- “covered employees” must be paid min wage
- determined based off work week
- Interns if:
- work gives company “immediate advantage”
- displace regular worker
- Independent contractor not covered

Overtime
A
- employees working more than 40 hour weeks must be paid time and a half
- governments can give extra time off
- no offset for weeks when employees work less than 40 hours
- hourly, weekly, or monthly pay
- “on call” equals working not waiting
- employees not covered: CPAs

“Child Labor” provisions
A
- under 18 excluded from hazardous jobs
- 16 is minimum age
- 14-15 year olds limited to certain occupations
- under 14 cannot work except for parents

- prohibits employer from discriminating based on sex by paying unequal wages for same work
- allows pay variance based on: seniority, merit, and quality of work
- cover everyone
- enforced by department of labor’s Wage and Hour Division
