Duties and responsibilities

Term of employment
the length of the contract should be explicit
Rollover provisions
extends the term of a contract with the mutual agreement of the parties
Reassignment clause
allows for the removal of the coach from a coaching position and reassignment to another position which is consistent with the coach’s education and experience
Compensation clause
base salary, benefits, bonuses, and other agreed upon payments
Provisions for outside and/or supplemental income
includes radio and television, endorsements, shoe, apparel and equipment contracts, camps and other various sources of supplemental income
Termination clause
should state the predetermined termination causes and include due process considerations
Buy out provision
allow each party to terminate the contract upon the payment of a specified amount of money to the other
Arbitration agreement
stipulates that if any dispute arises from the interpretation of the contract or other factors concerning the contract, the issues will be dealt with through arbitration
Covenant not to compete
an agreement where one party promises not to engage in conduct that would increase competition for the other party for a specific period of time.
Sponsorship contract
agreement that confirms the legal obligations of two or more parties as to the sponsorship of an event, facility, team, or related sports entity- business attached to another organization
Endorsement contracts
secure athlete sponsorships and are very common among individual sport athletes in sports such as golf, tennis, and distance running. Grant right to use an athletes name, image, or likeness in connection with advertising the sponsor’s products or services
Game contract
refers to a game between two organizations
Event contract
refers to a single game (Super Bowl) or a combination of events (NCAA basketball tournament)
