What are some models of emotion?
Discrete - defined terms and categories
Functional - emotions primarily drive actions
Cognitive - Emotions are a series of cognitive processes, and reasoning and discoveries
Dynamic - ever changing and interacting so that we can process them in real time and configure how we respond
How is emotion related to temperament?
Temperament is a collection of someone’s varying emotions along with along factors including activity level, attention and neurophysiology to represent someone in a greater perspective
What is the stress diathesis model?
It is a model that compares ones vulnerabilities, exposure to risk factors and outcomes.
This can be related to temperament based on how well someone can handle handle risk factors is based on their temperament. If their temperament is to be calm and responsive as opposed to reactive, they have a greater chance of handling risk factors and may have a better outcome
What is emotional regulation?
Conscious and unconscious processes used to monitor and modulate emotional processes and expressions
What is emotional regulation in infancy and toddlerhood?
reliance on caregivers, gaze
What is emotional regulation in early and middle childhood?
avert attention, cognitive strategies
what is emotional regulation in late childhood?
cognitive strategies to protect self esteem, manipulate behaviour for goals
what is emotional regulation in adolescence
disruption to emotional regulation due to changes in puberty, heightened arousal, different motivation, greater risk taking
