Cannon-Bard Theory
physiological arousal occurs simultaneously but independently
Two-factor theory
depends on two factors: physiological arousal and cognitive interpretation
the same level of physiological arousal regardless of the emotion being experienced
Cognitive appraisal theory of emotion
determines how a person deals with a situation and is influenced by their beliefs goals and personal circumstances, life expectancy and personality
Le doux theory of emotion, amygdala focus
- viewed emotions requiring no cognition
- fear stimulus is processed in one of two pathways: the short pathway; the thalamus to the amygdala. Long pathway; thalamus, cortex, amygdala
Emotion and the brain
Limbic system is involved in emotion and memory. Limbic system includes:
- hypothalamus
- thalamus
- amygdala
- hippocampus
What is happines?
- pleasant life: attainment of day to day pleasures
- good life: identifying our unique skills and abilities and engaging these talents to enrich our lives
- meaningful life: deep sense of fulfillment comes from using our talents
