Emergency Procedures Flashcards
1
Q
Power Failure above 500ft
A
- Lower collective
- Establish glide at 70kts
- Adjust collective to maintain RPM (95-106%) or full down if light weight prevents attaining above 95%
- Select landing spot and if altitude permits, maneuver for landing into the wind.
- Restart attempt at pilot discretion.
- If unable to restart, unneccesary switches and fuel cutoff off.
- Cyclic flare at 40ft AGL
- At 8ft AGL, forward cyclic to level ship, raise collective to cushion landing, touch down level with nose straight.
2
Q
Power Failure Between 8ft and 500ft AGL
A
- Lower collective
- Adjust collective to maintain RPM (95-106%) or full down if light weight prevents attaining above 95%
- Maintain airspeed until ground approached, then make cyclic flare to reduce rate of descent and forward speed.
- At 8ft AGL, forward cyclic to level ship, raise collective to cushion landing, touch down level with nose straight.
3
Q
Power Failure Below 8ft AGL
A
- Right pedal to prevent yaw.
- Allow helicopter to settle.
- Raise collective to cushion landing.
4
Q
Max Glide Configuration
A
- 90 KIAS
- 90% RRPM
- Glide ratio is about one nautical mile per 1100ft AGL
5
Q
Minimum Rate of Descent Configuration
A
- 60 KIAS
- 90% RRPM
- Glide ratio is about one nautical mile per 1350ft AGL
6
Q
Air Restart Procedure
A
If N1 is above 20%: (within 10 secs of power failure) - Press ignition switch, no need to pull fuel cutoff or close throttle.
If N1 is 20% or below:
- Fuel Cutoff - Pull Off
- Throttle - Closed
- Start Button - Push and Release
- N1 at 15% or above - Fuel Cutoff, push on
- After peak MGT - throttle full open
7
Q
Emergency Water Landing
Power Off
A
- Same procedure as power failure over land until water contact. Unlatch doors prior to water contact (if time permits)
- Apply lateral cyclic when aircraft contacts water to stop rotors.
- Release seatbelt and clear aircraft when rotors stop.
8
Q
Emergency Water Landing
Power On
A
- Descend to hover above water
- Unlatch doors
- Passengers exit aircraft
- Fly to a safe distance away
- Battery and Generator - OFF
- Close throttle
- Keep aircraft level and apply full collective on water contact
- Apply lateral cyclic to stop rotors.
- Release seatbelt and clear aircraft when rotors stop.
