16
Q

Landing without elevator

A

Airspeed 55 kts
Flaps 20
Once trim is set, use only power for glide
On flair, trim full nose up, because nose will drop when power reduced

17
Q

Vacuum system failure:

180 degree turn in clouds

A

Note heading indicator direction
Time 60 seconds
Standard rate left turn
Double check with compass after rollout
Adjust with skidding rather than rolling for heading accuracy
Cautious application of elevator. Steer with rudder, not control wheel as much as possible

18
Q

Vacuum system failure:

Emergency descent in clouds

A
Obtain approval
Choose east or west direction - minimizes compass swing
Keep hands off control wheel - steer with rudder
Monitor turn coordinator and compass
Stabilize let down:
Mixture rich
Carb heat
Reduce power for 500-800 fpm descent
Trim for 70 kts
19
Q

Recovery from spiral dive

A
Throttle idle
Level wings watching tc
Cautiously reduce speed to 70 kts
Carb heat
Engine warms
Resume cruise after descending through clouds
