Emergency Procedures Flashcards
What are emergency procedures (memorized) in event of a FIRE during engine start on the ground?
- MAGNETTOS Switch – START (keep cranking to start engine)
IF ENGINE FAILS TO START: - Throttle (Full–push full in)
- Mixture (Idle cutoff – pull full out)
- MAGNETTOS – Switch - Start (keep crankg)
- FUEL SHUTOFF – Off (pull full out)
- FUEL PUMP – Off
- MAGNETOS – Off
- STBY BATT – Off
- MASTER – Off
What are emergency procedures in event of ENGINE FIRE IN FLIGHT?
- Fuel Mixture - Idle cutoff (pull full out)
- Fuel Shutoff Valve - Off (pull full out)
- Fuel Pump – Off
- Master switch (Alt and Bat) – off
What are emergency procedures in event of an ELECTRICAL FIRE IN FLIGHT?
- STBY BATT switch – OFF
- MASTER switch – OFF
- Cabin Vents - CLOSED (to avoid dfts)
- Cabin HT and Cabin Air – OFF (push full in – to avoid drafts)
- Fire Extinguisher – activate (if available)
What are emergency procedures in the event of an electrical CABIN FIRE in flight?
- STBY BATT – Off
- MASTER (alt and bat) – off
- Cabin vents – CLOSED (avoid drafts)
- Cabin HT and Cabin Air control knobs – OFF (push full in, to avoid drafts)
- Fire Extinguisher – Activate (if available)
WARNING: After fire ext’r has been used, make sure fire fully ext’d before opening vents to remove smoke from cabin.
What are emergency procedures in the event in event of a WING FIRE?
- Land and Taxi light switches – off
- NAV Light switch – off
- STROBE light switch – off
- PITOT Heat switch – off
NOTE: Perform sideslip to keep flames away from the fuel tank and cabin. Land asap using flaps only as req’d for final approach and touchdown.
What are emergency procedures (memorized) for icing during flight (inadvertent icing encountered during flight)?
- Pitot heat switch – on
- Turn back or change altitutde (to obtain an outside air temp that is less conducive to icing)
- Cabin Ht – on (pull full out)
- Defroster Control outlets – open (maximize windshield defroster airflow)
- Cabin Air Control knob – adjust (to max defroster heat and airflow)
What are emergency procedures (memorized) for STATIC SOURCE BLOCKAGE (erroneous instrument reading suspected)?
- Alt Static Air Valve – on (pull full out)
What are the memorized emergency procedures when you smell excessive fuel vapor?
Invoke fuel flow stabilization procedures (if flow fluctuations of 1 GPH or more, or power surges occur) – see POH, no procedures to memorize.
What are memorized emergency procedures for abnormal landings such as landing with a flat main or nose tire?
See POH – no memorized emergency procedures.
What are memorized emergency procedures for electrical power supply system malfunctions, such as with ELECTRICAL POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS occur?
See POH – no memorized emergency procedures for elec pwr supply system malfunctions such as:
- - High vlts annun comes on - - or Batt Amps more than 40 - - or low vlts annun comes on below 1000 RPM - - or low vlts annun comes on or does not go off at higher RPM
What are the memorized emergency procedures for when the AUTOPILOT OR ELECTRIC TRIM fails?
Memorized emergency procedures for autopilot of electric trim failure–if AP or PTRM annunciators come on:
1. Control wheel – grasp firmly (regain control of airplane)
2. A/P Trim Disc button – PRESS and HOLD (throughout recovery)
3. Elevator trim control – adjust manually
4. Auto Pilot circuit breaker - OPEN (pull out)
[Warning: following any of these failures, do not engage autopilot until cause of failure has been corrected.]
What are memorized emergency procedures for when an annunciator comes on for “display cooling advisory”?
See POH – no memorized emergency procedures.
What are the memorized emergency procedures for an annunciator showing a vacuum system failure?
See POH – no memorized emergency procedures for vacuum system failure annunciator.
What are the memorized emergency procedures for HIGH CARBON MONOXIDE advisory?
When the CO LVL annunciator comes on:
1. Cabin HT control – OFF (push full in)
2. Cabin AIR control – ON (pull full out)
3. Cabin vents – OPEN
4. see POH
If CO LVL annun remains on:
5. Land as soon as practical.
Emergency procedures – what is the universal radio frequency for emergencies what information do you provide when you announce a MAYDAY message?
In a mayday message, you call out on frequency 121.5 MHz giving location, intentions and squawk 7700 (emergency squawk).
In an emergency situation, such as involving a forced landing, how do you activate the ELT (and what does ELT stand for)?
ELT stands for EMERGENCY LOCATOR TRANSMITTER and it is activated in two ways:
1. It is “armed” when set in the ARM position. The ELT is then energized when certain levels of G forces are detected.
- It is immediately energized when set to “ON” position.
[[Look for ELT panel on upper right instrument panel – toggle switch.]]
