What emergency equipment is located in the cockpit?

How many PBE’s are in the aircraft and where are they located?
Is there anything else that is always collocated?
3 PBE’s
In the cockpit, in the overhead locker half way down the CABIN and on the CABIN side of the cargo door.
A fire extinguisher is always adjacent to a PBE
How many flashlights are there and where are they located?
5 flashlights.
2 in the cockpit, 1 at each observer station and 1 collocated with the PBE And fire extinguisher on the CABIN side of the cargo door.
What items are located in the grab bag?
One PLB One 8 pack of mini flares 2 dual use Day night signals One pack of Sea dye One heliograph One lanyard 2 purified water sachets
How many emergency exits do the dash 8 300’s have?
5
One overhead exit in the cockpit, 2 type 1 (outward opening)exits in the forward CABIN and 2 type 3 (inward opening) exits area, the observer stations
Note, the service door at the back right is considered too small to be counted as an exit but can be used if all else fails.
How many exits does the dash 8 200 have?
3 except for ZZP (x airline) which has 5
1 overhead exit in the cockpit, 2 forward CABIN exits (type 1 on the left and type 2 on the right)
ZZP has 2 type 3 exits at the observer stations
What are the different types of emergency exit
Type 1: outward opening full size emergency exit
Type 2: inwards floor level close to full size emergency exit
Type 3: inwards opening smaller emergency exit which may not be at floor level
What is the pressure requirement for the ditching dams on the 300’s?
1400PSI minimum.
A graph can be found in the maintenance manual stipulating the temperature pressure relationship
What is the minimum dispatch pressure for the crew portable oxygen bottles?
1100psi
What is the minimum dispatch pressure for the fixed crew oxygen system
1300psi for 2 crew.
1800PSI for 3 crew.
How many smoke detectors are onboard?
3
One in the toilet
Two in the cargo compartment
How many aircraft fixed fire extinguishing systems are there and which are automatic?
4
1 for each engine
1 for the APU
1 for the toilet waste disposal bin
The APU is automatic however if the system fails it can also be manually activated.
The toilet one is automatic and disposes it’s contents when a thermal wax plug melts above 76 degrees.
How long can a PBE supply oxygen for?
20 minutes
How many respirators and associated throats microphones are onboard each dash 8?
4 respirators, 2 with throats microphones.
They are located at the back left of the cabin (facing forwards)
How many fixed ELT’s are onboard and how do they work?
1 fixed ELT. transmits on 121.5 and 243 for as long as the battery works (approx 50 hours).
It also transmits on 406 for the first 24 hours updating position every 50 seconds
