Engine failure in cruise
PF- “Autothrottle arm switch off, set max continuous thrust”
TRIM
PM- select auto throttle arm
switch off, CON on TMSP AND manually position thrust levers, on FMC cruise page select ENG OUT, ENG OUT CRZ D/DOWN…EXECUTE
LIGHTS, ATC
PF- ENSURE VNAV ENGAGED AND SET ALTITUDE IN WINDOW, TURN IF REQUIRED AND CALL CHECKLIST ENGINE FAILURE IN CRUISE
(76% 7 degrees)
Engine failure on approach
Flaps 20 or less- Checklist engine failure, complete normal single engine approach and landing
Flaps more than 20 or past the FAF- Go around or adjust thrust to maintain speed and continue approach
Stall
Call “STALL” HOLD COntrol column firmly disconnect autopilot and auto throttle apply nose down elevator- When out of stall roll wings level and increase thrust smoothly- check speed brakes retracted- if clean during liftoff call flaps 1
*if elevator, trim, and power reduction don’t work consider rolling with rudder up to 60degrees to unload the wing.
GPWS/WINDSHEAR GROUND CONTACT A FACTOR
PF/PM roles
Firewall click click stow
pitch to 20 degrees or pli if required do not change flap or gear config, Call “Bug to” call “—–Thrust”
Pm gets fd’s off
TCAS RA
Disengage the auto throttle and autopilot
Promptly and smoothly execute the command
If on final, may have to execute a missed approach
Pm calls “rouge 1119 tcas ra” rouge 119 clear of conflict returning to”
- return to cleared level at no greater than 500fpm
Dual Engine Failure
ENG START selectors both- FLT
Thrust levers both- IDLE
Fuel Control switches Both- CUTOFF, THEN RUN
If engine appears stalled or egt approaches the standby placard limit- Confirm cutoff then run
(RAM AIR TURB SWITCH PUSH
APU)
Airspeed unreliable
Autopilot disengage A/T arm switch off F/D switches both off set the following gear up pitch attitude and thrust flaps extended 10 degrees and 80% N1 Flaps up 4 degrees and 75%N1
Engine limit or surge or stall
- a/t arm switch off
- thrust lever affected side…. confirm… retard until engine indications are within limits
Volcanic ash
- a/t arm switch off
- (if conditions allow) thrust levers (both) idle
APU fire
-APU fire switch,…. confirm…. pull, rotate to the stop and hold for 1 second
oceanic diversion all engine
-obtain clearance
-if clearance unavailable
-turn on all lights
-declare emergency
-broadcast on 121.5/123.45
-ads emergency on
-turn and offset as follows (don’t do a 180 until under 290)
NAT/WATRS-30 degrees left or right by 5nm
Russia- 30 degrees right 16.2 nm
other- 45 degrees left or right 15nm
when established on the offset climb or descend 500ft
What are tolerances for indications of wind shear
\+- 15kts \+-500fpm \+-5* 1 dot g.s displacement Unusual thrust requirments
Smoke or fire from lithium battery
Transfer control if required
PA backup to the flightdeck backup to the flightdeck
Emergency descent without captain
Oxygen and communications Spin altitude down Fl CH Thrust Speed brakes Bug vmo/mmo
Reconfiguring after wind shear recovery
T/o and go around
Two F’s Flight directors back on FL CH
In the G.A
Call go around flaps 20
