Management of Diabetic Ketoacidosis

A

ABCDE assessment
Diagnose
Call for help
Airway management
Oxygen
Full Monitoring
Bloods including glucose, U+E and VBG taken regularly
Rehydrate: 15ml/kg saline or hartmanns in first hour
Insulin: 0.1U/kg fixed scale
Glucose: 10% when blood glucose below 14mmol/L
Potassium: (Insulin causes K to move into cells.)
Monitor urine output with catheter.
Find the cause: infection?

Management of cardiac arrest

A
ABCDE assessment
Diagnose
Call for help
Find defibrillator
Chest compressions and rescue breaths (30:2). (100-120 bpm)
Early defibrillation if shockable rhythm.
Airway management and Oxygen
Get venous access. IO if difficulty.
Rule out 5Hs and 5Ts.
