Emergency Equipment & Furnishings Flashcards
Major interior components
Flight deck, forward flight attendant station, closet, galley, passenger cabin, aft flight attendant station and lavatory.
How many Puritan oxygen masks are in the flight deck?
3
Where are the crew oxygen masks located?
The stowage boxes on both side consoles
Where is the observer oxygen mask located?
In the stowage box behind the FO’s seat on the right aft console
What opens the oxygen shutoff valves?
They open when the stowage boxes are opened
What other purpose do the stowage boxes serve?
They provide a means to test the oxygen system
What capability do the oxygen masks have?
Quick downing due to an inflatable harness that expands under pressurized air when the harness inflation button is pressed and then collapses around the head when the button is released.
When do the flight deck oxygen masks provide pure oxygen?
In the normal position above 33,000ft, in the 100% position and in the emergency position.
Does diluted oxygen or pure oxygen last longer?
Diluted oxygen lasts longer
When is pure oxygen best used?
High altitude, rapid decompression, and when smoke is present.
What forces oxygen into the lungs and ventilate the smoke goggles through he purge valve?
Positive pressure oxygen
What provides oxygen to all 3 crew masks?
An oxygen cylinder stored behind the FO’s seat in a partitioned compartment
What is the maximum pressure of the crew oxygen tank?
1850psi
What should you check on the oxygen tank when you enter the aircraft?
Make sure that it is on. The pressure must also be checked by referencing the Performance Information Guide (PIG) or the chart on the inside of the oxygen service panel to ensure there is adequate oxygen for the amount of people in the flight deck.
What else should you use when checking the oxygen supply?
Use the flight deck temperature from the MFD Environmental Control system (ECS) since the oxygen is stored near the flight deck. This page also shows oxygen pressure.
When does the “Oxygen Lo Press” caution message appear on the EICAS?
When the tank pressure falls below 400psi
Where is the oxygen cylinder filled?
Through an exterior oxygen service panel on the right side of the aircraft nose.
What protects the flight deck oxygen system from high pressure?
A pressure burst disc above the service panel. In the event that the cylinder pressure is too high, the disc will burst to protect the system.
Crew Oxygen Mask Test
- Deselect the BOOM/MASK to MASK
- Select the ST SPKR OFF
- Turn up the speaker volume
- Set the yoke PTT switch to HOT
- Push TEST on the oxygen mask stowage box
- Return the audio controls to their normal positions
- Ensure the mask is set to the 100% position
Observer Oxygen Mask Test
- Select MASK on the observer and captain or FO audio panels
- Select observer microphone switch to HOT
- Select EMERGENCY setting on the observer mask.
- Return the audio controls to their normal position.
- Ensure the mask is set to the 100% position
What provides the cabin with emergency oxygen?
Chemical oxygen generators and continuous-flow masks.
Where are the mask dispensing units located for the cabin?
In the right and left overhead panels and the forward flight attendant station
How much time of oxygen do the cabin oxygen generators create?
12 minutes
What is a by product of the oxygen generators making oxygen?
It generates a lot of heat
Where is the passenger oxygen control panel located?
On the right side console in the flight deck
What does the passenger oxygen “ON” light mean?
It means the signal to deploy the masks was sent to the system, it does not mean the masks have been deployed or that the oxygen generators have been activated.
What are the 3 positions of the passenger oxygen switch?
- CLOSED - Disables mask deployment and resets the ON indicator and cabin signs after system activation
- AUTO - The masks will deploy automatically when cabin altitude exceeds 14,000ft (14,500ft for XR models), the NO SMOKING and FASTEN SEAT BELTS signs illuminate when the system is activated.
- MANUAL - Masks deploy regardless of the cabin altitude
How many cabin oxygen masks are installed?
58
Which seat rows have masks for lap children?
Rows 3, 7, 11, 16, and 19 have three masks on the right side for lap children.
What is the maximum amount of lap children in a full aircraft?
5 with the aft flight attendant jump seat occupied, or 6 of it is unoccupied.
What indicated rows with extra oxygen masks?
Placards or grey seats
Describe the oxygen displacement tool
Used to deploy the passenger oxygen masks in case some fail to deploy.
How many oxygen displacement tools are onboard the aircraft?
2
Describe the portable oxygen cylinder
Located at all flight attendant stations, they are equipped with 2 continuous-flow masks. For therapeutic use only.
What is the minimum pressure for dispatch for the portable oxygen cylinder?
1200 psi
How much oxygen does the portable oxygen cylinder provide?
At least 30 minutes.
How many portable oxygen cylinders are on board the aircraft?
2
How many halon fire extinguishers is the aircraft equipped with?
3
How does the halon fire extinguisher work?
It uses halon gas that interrupts the chemical process of fire.
When should the halon fire extinguisher be used?
On class B and C fires
What should be worn when using a halon fire extinguisher?
PBE
How does the water fire extinguisher work?
A CO2 cartridge powers it. When the cartridge is punctured, water is expelled out the nozzle.
