What is the PSC of the crash axe?
Present

Name 4 precautions of BCF fire extinguisher
1) PBE to be worn
2) before discharging BCF on flight deck, oxygen masks should be worn by flight crew with oxygen regulators set to 100%
3) if fighting fires, avoid to getting too close to avoid scattering or splashing fluid surfaces
4) BCF has been shown to not be effective on class D fires. However, they are helpful in fighting the subsequent fire of surrounding materials.
What is the duration of a BCF?
Minimum 10 seconds
Which piece of emergency equipment requires the tamper prevention integrity seal to be checked as part of the PSC?

Name the precautions of oxygen cylinders
1) avoid bumping/dropping cylinder
2) no ignition sources within 4 metres of oxygen equipment
3) avoid contact between oxygen equipment and grease/oils
4) remove make up from the person before administering
5) secure oxygen cylinder when administering oxygen to passenger
6) use shoulder strap when in use and ensure gauge is visible to monitor PSI
7) EROS oxygen cylinders are not for passenger use without flight crew consent

How long does it take for PBE to fully inflate?
From 2-3 minutes but the equipment is ready for use immediately
What is the duration of use for PBE?
Oxygen flows for between 8-10 minutes but oxygen remains in the hood to protect the wearer for a minimum of 15 minutes of usage
Where do you place PBE mask after use?
Lavatory waste bin. All other rubbish from that bin should be placed in an alternative bin and the lavatory should then be locked and monitored for the duration of the flight.
A report should then be logged in the cabin condition log noting the location from which the unit was removed and where it was stored.
What is the operation of use for BCF fire extinguisher?
Push up red catch
Aim at the base of fire
Squeeze the handle
Sweep the flames (use in short bursts or continuously)
Optimal distance is 1.5m to 2m and it should be help 60 degrees of vertical.
Describe the crash axe
One blade edge and one spiked edge with an insulated handle to avoid electric shocks.
When could a crash axe be used?
1) as an aid while fighting fires in flight. Use the spiked end to lever or pry a panel open if fire source is difficult to locate
2) assist with clearing physical obstructions in a crash
3) as a basic survival aid in a remote area
