Cardiac arrest - shockable rhythm, when do you give adrenaline and how much?
- IM Adrenaline 1: 10,000
- 1mg after 2nd shock
- then every 2nd cycle
Cardiac arrest - NON-shockable rhythm, when do you give adrenaline and how much?
- IM Adrenaline 1 : 10,00
- 1mg immediately
- Then every 2nd cycle
When do you give Atropine? How much and why
- Bradycardia
- 500mcg IV
- If no response, another 500mcg
- Repeat to maximum 3mg
What drugs do you prescribe in acute pulmonary Oedema?
- Morphine - 5-10mg IV slowly OR
- Diamorphine 5mg IV slowly
- Furosemide - 40mg IV slowly
If someone is allergic to sulphonamides, which diuretic do you need to be careful with?
Furosemide
In an adult acute severe asthma attack what do you prescribe?
- Salbutamol 5mg inhaled
- Ipatropium 250-500mcg (depending on heart failure) inhaled
- Hydrocortisone 100mg IV
What are the adrenaline dosages in anaphylactic shock
- IM 1 : 1000
- > 12yrs = 500mcg
- 6-12yrs = 300mcg
- <6yrs = 150mcg
What are the IV hydrocortisone dosages in anaphylactic shock?
- > 12 = 200mg
- 6 - 12 = 100mg
- 6m - 12yr = 50mg
- <6m = 25mg
What are the IV chlorphenamine dosages in anaphylactic shock?
- > 12yrs = 10mg
- 6 - 12yrs = 5mg
- 6m - 12yrs = 2.5mg
<6m = 2.5mg/kg
How do you calculate fluid deficit in paeds?
kg x % dehydration x 10
How do you calculate maintenance fluids in paeds?
1st 10kg = 100mls/kg
2nd 10kg = 50mls/kg
Rest = 20ml/kg
What value do you use for fluid bolus in paeds?
20ml/kg
How do you estimate the weight of a child?
(age + 4) x 2
What do you prescribe in a benzodiazepine intoxication?
Flumenazil - 200mcg every 2-3minutes until effects seen
What do you prescribe in hypoglycaemia
If GCS <15:
- 80mls 20% or 150mls10%
- 1mg Glucagon IM
If GCS 15:
- Oral glucose via Lucozade
- Oral/IV glucagon
