Emergency Checklist items Flashcards

1
Q

What is the caps deployment process?

A

First reduce air speed to the minimum possible, next move mixture to idle, cut off, then remove the handle. Handle, cover and pull the handle straight down using both hands. Fuel selector should be moved to off as well as all battery and alt Masters, the ignition switch, and fuel pump. Turn your elt on, tighten seat belts, secure loose items and assume the emergency landing position. After the airplane comes to a complete stop, evacuate, moving upwind.

Q

What is the emergency maneuver for an inadvertent spiral dive in IMC flight?

A

Power idle, wings level, elevator level or vy climb. Autopilot to heading and altitude mode. In all cases, if the aircraft enters an unusual attitude from which recovery is not assured immediately deploy caps. To reduce spatial disorientation, fixate on PFD attitude indicator and minimize head movement.

Q

What do you do if you see an alt-1 annunciator light flashing?

A

Ammeter to batt. Then if charging rate is greater than 30 amps, reduce load, monitor amateur until charge rate is less than 15 amps. When battery charge rate is within limits, add loads as necessary for flight conditions.

Q

What is the emergency procedure if there is an engine fire in flight?

A

Mixture idle cut off, fuel pump off, fuel selector off, fan off, air flow selector off, power lever idle, ignition switch off, cabin door is partially open, land as soon as possible. If an engine fire occurs during flight, do not attempt to restart the engine. Proceed to force landing.

16
Q

What should you do if you see the oil annunciator orange illuminated?

A

Oil temperature and pressure check. If oil pressure is low (<10 PSI), reduce power to minimum required and land as soon as possible. If oil temperature is high (over 240°F), reduce climb rate, increase airspeed to 120 knots, enrichen mixture, reduce power lever. If oil annunciator remains illuminated after 1 minute, reduce power to minimum required and land as soon as practical.

17
Q

What do you do if propeller rpm will not increase?

A

Check oil pressure and land as soon as possible

18
Q

What do you do if propeller over speeds or will not decrease?

A

Adjust power lever to keep RPM in limits. Reduce airspeed to 80 knots and land as soon as practical.

19
Q

What do you do when there is a cabin fire in flight?

A

If in IMC conditions, turn alt 1, alt 2, and bat 1 switches off. Power from battery. 2. Will keep the PFD operational for approximately 30 minutes. Close the air vents and activate the fire extinguisher. If airflow is not sufficient to clear smoke or fumes, partially open cabin doors. When fire extinguished, open air vents full cold. Avionics Master off, all other switches off and land as soon as possible.

20
Q

What do you do in the case of wing fire in flight?

A

Pitot heat off, nav lights off, strobes off, side slip wings to keep flames away from fuel tank and cabin and land as soon as possible

21
Q

What do you do if your primary flight display system loses air data?

A

Land as soon as practical and monitor standby instruments.

22
Q

What do you do a scenario where there is a loss of attitude data?

A

Monitor standby instruments, activate autopilot GPSS mode and activate autopilot altitude hold. You activate autopilot GPSs mode by pulling pfd one and two circuit breakers. This will result in loss of all PFD instruments, but allow the aircraft to be controlled with the autopilot on GPS courses.

23
Q

What do you do in the case of an autopilot malfunction?

A

Maintain airplane control manually, press the trim Disconnect (red button). If autopilot does not disengage, pull the autopilot circuit breaker, use the power lever as required. If autopilot does not disengage, consider turning off bat and alt Masters depending on flight conditions. Yoke and land as soon as practical.

24
Q

What do you do in case of a communications failure?

A

Check the switches and controls, check the volume on the headset and audio panel, change frequency, check circuit breakers, change your headset, and connect handheld microphone.

25
Q

What is the emergency procedure for an aborted takeoff?

A

Power lever to idle, brakes as required, flaps up and elevator full aft. Avoid brake overheat, decelerate on runway, minimize time stopped once clear, and refrain from parking brake use.

26
Q

What is the ditching emergency procedure?

A

Transmit May Day on radio frequency 121.5, set squawk to 7700, activate caps, evacuate airplane and inflate flotation devices clear of airplane.

27
Q

What do you do? If a door is open in flight during the takeoff roll?

A

Abort the takeoff

28
Q

How do you perform a forced landing without engine power emergency? Maneuver?

A

Best, glide is 96 knots, transmit May Day on 121.5, squawk 7700. If off airport, activate elt, press terr inhibit, idle power lever, idle cut off mixture, fuel selector off, ignition switch off, fuel pump off. Flaps to 100% when landing assured, Masters off, seat belt secured.

29
Q

What do you do in a scenario where there is inadvertent icing encounter?

A

Turn pitot heat on, AirSpeed to 120 to 135. Exit, turn back, descend out of icing conditions, maximum cabin heat, windshield defrost full open. Add 10 to 20 knots to approach and landing speeds if ice accumulation remains on aircraft.

30
Q

When making routine transponder code changes, pilots should avoid inadvertent selection of this code which is the hijacked aircraft code and will cause an alert on the controller’s screen

A

7500

31
Q

When may hazardous wind shear be expected?

A

In areas of low-level temperature, inversion, frontal zones, and clear air turbulence. Wind shear may be expected with a low-level temperature inversion, a frontal zone, or clear air turbulence at high levels associated with the jet stream or strong circulation.

32
Q

Which light signal from the control tower clears a pilot to taxi?

A

Flashing green

33
Q

What is the load factor on an airplane flying 45° steep turn at a level altitude?

A

1.4 Gs. This is constant for all airplanes regardless of the air speed.

34
Q

How is an airport beacon represented on a sectional? What icon is used?

A

A star icon

35
Q

What period of time must a person be hospitalized before an injury may be defined by the NTSB as a “Serious injury”

A

48 hours, commencing within 7 days after date of the injury
