high fever, rigors, respiratory symptoms, unilateral neck swelling or pain

  • healthy young adolescents
  • fusibacterium necrophorum–> bactermia–> septic thrombophlebitis
  • U/S to check for internal jugular vein thrombophlebitis
  • ampicillin sulbactam

How do you treat venous thoracic outlet syndrome? What do you see on physical exam? What is it caused by?

A

catheter directed thrombolysis

  • redness, cyanosis, dilated veins (Uscher’s sign)
  • anatomic abnormalities of thoracic outlet (cervical rib) or thrombosis of axillary vein
